MOTH – your flexible alternative – duo – trio – combo
“Acoustic rock meets the Blues, Folk, Country and Americana for a laidback barfight. It’s every genre for themselves. Battle ensues. Everyone wins. MOTH emerges unscathed.”
“What a lovely night, full of energy with a dash of haunting wistfulness that takes you on a journey through your own memories. The sound was so well balanced, that all the instruments and voices blended beautifully, and yet each was clear and distinct. Thank you.”
“Last night at The Station East I had the absolute pleasure of seeing in my humble opinion one of the best bands from our region. Moth had it all – stunning musicians, hilarious between song banter and Pete Shaw’s brilliant and sometimes moving lyrics. His song The Invisible Me blew me away as it struck a chord as we all have a vieled persona. Plus we had the Geordie Mick Khan on fretless bass! So please try so see the amazing Moth and buy their album which is coming out soon – you will be amazed.
“You sounded great! a cross between the Waterboys & Kevin McDermott Orchestra”
“I didn’t know what to expect, but I didn’t expect such musicianship”
“I didn’t know what to expect, but I didn’t expect such musicianship” “Stomping 2nd set after tech issues in 1st set. I have to say I love the tune ‘far away place’ it’s a masterpiece, you must get recorded with this line up, get it up online… “
Following the successes of Pete’s previous musical outings, The Pete Shaw Band, Spelk, Tea Cup Head, Beeblefish, and the Shaw:Clark Project, Pete unveils a dynamic new live band. This fluid ensemble – “MOTH” – boasts a superb line-up of seasoned established musicians, each with their own impressive careers in Jazz, Folk, and Rock. Janet Tomlinson’s soulful fiddle and the rhythmic tapestry woven by Andy Tinkler on bass and Jason Thompson on percussion (with the occasional inclusion of Samantha Kate’s cello whispers, when available) form a vibrant backdrop for Pete’s original songs, with a treasure trove of new material being created. This isn’t just a band; it’s a musical conversation, a collaboration of seasoned voices finding fresh harmony. Already enjoying gigs across the North East (Crossing the Tyne Festival, North Shield’s Three Tanners, Baba Yaga’s House & Baba Yaga’s Loft, Newcastle’s Blues & Bourbon’ (now Blues Underground), Billy Bootleggers’ Gateshead’s Microbus, Tynemouth’s Arches/Alfie & Finn’s and Whitley Bay’s Ticket Office, Moth are poised to make an even bigger impact on the regional scene and beyond.
“You can always expect a brilliant performance from Pete, an accomplished songwriter who consistently delivers high quality performances of his own material, whether solo or with his splendid band MOTH!” John smith – Alfie & Finn’s Tynemouth 2023
